The Niagara Gorge is a 6.8 mile (11 km) long canyon carved by the Niagara River along the Canada/US border. Within the gorge, the river current is one of the most powerful in the world creating hazardous rapids and a turbulent swirling whirlpool.

Robert Moses Niagara Power Plant

Hydroelectric power plants have been harnessing the power of the Niagara River for over 100 years. Together, the Sir Adam Beck Generating Stations and the Robert Moses Generating Station form the largest generators of hydroelectric power in North America and supply over 1/4 of power used in Ontario and New York State. All the historic and modern generating stations can be spotted along the Niagara River.

Frequently Asked Questions

Am I going to get wet?
Yes! Visiting Niagara Falls is a multi-sensory experience. You will receive souvenir ponchos at included attractions so you can get up close and personal with the Falls. It is recommended that you bring an extra pair of shoes and a waterproof bag to keep your belongings dry.
What should I wear?
Comfortable walking shoes or sneakers are recommended. It is always a few degrees cooler near the water, so a jacket or sweater is also a good idea for cooler temperatures.
How long do we spend at each stop?
For our main stops, we can spend up to 2.5 hours at the Maid of the Mist (including the boat cruise) and about 1.5 hours at Cave of the Winds. Your time at each highlight and attraction can vary depending upon the time of year.
Is there a lot of walking involved?
Yes, you will cover approximately 1 - 2 miles over the course of the tour. It is broken up throughout the tour and there are also benches available throughout the state park for rest.
